Program areas at The Gateway School of New York
The Gateway School provided educational services to 145 students, ages 6-14, and also provided language and counseling to all students. Occupational therapy is also provided in lower School. The Gateway School of New York teaches children with language-based learning disabilities and/or attention deficit The skills and strategies necessary to become independent learners able to identify and advocate for their needs. Gateway prepares students for success in college preparatory high schools. It ensures they acquire skills and strategies they can apply towards The mastery of more complex academic material, and develop a sound sense of self. Continued on schedule o.gateway students transition to mainstream School settings when it is clear they can do so successfully. Gateway students are supported by a high level of structure, given clear explanations, and are taught according to their individual needs by virtue of diagnostic instruction. Through The implementation of effective, research-validated direct instruction, students discover how to learn successfully, experience success, and develop The self-awareness and confidence that inspires them to assume ever-increasing responsibility for their learning. An independent School curriculum weaves together The skills and strategies necessary for learning with The academic content required for successful participation in general classrooms.
