Program areas at Ward 8 Community Benevolence Fund
The Ward 8 Community Benevolence Fund, previously known as The George Floyd Community Benevolence Fund, was founded by a one-time payment of $500,000 that was paid by the City of Minneapolis as part of the $27 Million Dollar payment for the death of George Floyd. The purpose of the Fund was to give effect to the settlement, which included a desired goal of benefitting businesses that served the community where George Floyd was murdered, many of which were severely impacted in the wake of COVID 19 and George's murder. The Foundation issued $449,801.63 in grants in 2023, which included making grants to 16 different entities. Those grants were made to a variety of entities, included assistance with mental health counseling at a local Boys & Girls Club, a social-justice minded photography gallery in George Floyd Square, and a local car detailing business.
