Program areas at The Green Mountain Club
Field programs: The Green Mountain Club works to conserve, protect, and ensure The continued viability of The long trail, The appalachian trail in Vermont, and kingdom heritage lands trails. Operations are in place to develop and maintain The trails, shelters and structures that are a part of The Club's trail system. Gmc's professional trail crews worked on trails throughout Vermont and repaired and renovated lodges and shelters. We placed 16 caretakers along The trail to educate The public on low-impact hiking and camping techniques, and managed use at Mountain sites and ponds in Vermont's backcountry. Land conservation: The Green Mountain Club is committed to protecting The trail corridor and works with local agency partners to conserve land surrounding our trail management system. We utilize The work of volunteers to monitor our corridors, which involves regularly walking protected lands to ensure that conservation restrictions are being upheld and The long trail system is protected. We also maintain open areas, which has goals of maintaining The agricultural character of The region, suppressing invasive species, and providing meadow environments for wildlife. Education and outreach: The Green Mountain Club provides educational programs to The hiking public through its workshops, service learning, and group outreach. We lead service trips for youth organizations, colleges and businesses that bolster our field programs and instill a connection to The long trail. Throughout The winter, we host a speaker series on hiking related topics and in The spring and summer, we hold a series of workshops about backpacking and The outdoors. We also provide volunteer led hikes.
