Program areas at The Harris Institute

The summer science camp provides a summer program that enables middle school students to learn about science, technology, engineering and math and experience college life at The same time. The two-week residential summer camp held at ten colleges and university campuses reached 393 students, representative of 317 school campuses. The program also provides tools for teachers to deliver more engaging classroom activities. The program has served more than 12,593 underserved youth over The last decade. The camp was not held in 2018 as The Harris Institute revises The model to enrich The curriculum and expand The outreach of The program.
Dare to dream program is a nine-month, elementary school based program that boosts self-esteem in children by providing access to positive role models. Dare to dream uses interactive math and science curriculums to get students thinking about their futures and exploring The exciting possiblities. The interactive curriculum is comprised of three modules which folcus on self-improvement, community service, and goal setting / career planning. Ten elementary schools from two houston area independent school districts participated in The dare to dream program, representing over 250 elementary students, 10 volunteer probation officers, 11 fbi special agents, and 10 community in school volunteers.

The center offers project-based inquiry learning experiences designed to engage The learners in The knowledge, understanding, and application of stem concepts and principals. The stem centers of academic excellence program includes: 1) girls stem academy - a program designed to engage girls in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (stem) education during The summer where 39 elementary students and 7 volunteers from The alief independent school district participated in The program. 2) stem after school program - a program designed to provide educational opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (stem). 3 uteach volunteers and 38 middle school students participated in The program.
