The John Crerar Foundation

This grant will support The ongoing consevration of The historic Crerar collection. The written materials held at The Crerar library on The university of chicago campus include certain books, pamphlets and other publications that were amassed over a period of many years, and formed The core of The collection when The Crerar library was relocated to The university of chicago. Conservation work on The collection began in 2018 with an initiative designated The Crerar historically important resources project (chirp). Chirp represents a collaboration among The Crerar library, The university library's preservation department and The university library's cataloging team. This work was disrupted by The covid-19 pandemic, and now has been restarted with an immediate focus on The Crerar pamphlet collection. From The total grant of $32,800, The sum of $22,800 will be used for conservation. The remaining $10,000 will be allocated to cataloging, to ehance accessibility to The pamphlet collection.
