Program areas at The Josef and Anni Albers Foundation
Conservation and preservation of art and archival materials: The Foundation, through meticulous management and scholarly research, conserves and preserves: (1) oil paintings, works on glass, drawings, photographs, photo-collages, and prints by The late Josef Albers; (2) weavings, textile materials, drawings, and prints by The late Anni Albers: (3) works by Josef Albers's colleagues and students, including original materials used for his 1962 publication interaction of color; and (4) archives consisting of writings by and about Josef and Anni Albers, photographs, exhibition catalogues and other related materials.
Exhibitions: preparation of various exhibitions of art by Josef Albers and Anni Albers, including The major retrospective of their art at The muse d'art moderne de la ville de paris and its later presentation at The museum of modern art in valencia, spain: packing, transport, installation, etc. (3) similar work on The exhibition of their art in The kunstmuseum den haag in The netherlands; (4) work relating to loans of art from The Albers Foundation, as well as from public institutions, to various exhibitions worldwide; (5) exploration of possible exhibitions in latin america as well as The us; (6) work for publications, including a bilingual edition of "poems and drawings, Anni & Josef albers/equal and unequal," foreign editions of "interaction of color, and french editions of Anni Albers's "on weaving and "collected essays;" (7) collaboration with david zwirner gallery in nyc and london; (8) efforts to acquire major works by The alberses to fill lacunae in our collection.
Misc. Activities: (1) support for teaching of art to disadvantaged children and others, including The development of "Albers for kids;" (2) management of a visiting artist program in our residential studios in bethany ct, senegal, and ireland; (3) work on various publications, including a biography of alberses' friend and colleague piet mondrian; (4) continued development of facilities ideal for our collection and The maintenance of our archives; (5) further research on The work of Anni and Josef Albers in preparation for lectures in The us and europe; (6) support of arts-related programs of other non-profit organizations; (7) digitization of our collections catalogue; (8) exposing and preventing forgeries, including successful court cases in italy; (9) operation of "farman and "trunk" galleries at our benthany, ct compound....
