Community grants are awarded to organizations that empower The local berks county community. The sustainer membership of The Junior League of Reading awarded community grants to organizations that align with their mission. Grants were awarded as follows:(1) berks youth chorus, a choral and music education organization with strong focus on community, friendship, and music performance. (2) opportunity house for summer camp field trip costs(3) latin fusion baseball - program supplies and nutrition workshops for a 6-day baseball camp(4) united way of berks county - supplies for read alliance program(5) voiceup berks - sponsor 1 girl to The yvc summit (youth leadership conference)
The jlr young women's summit is a 4 day-long workshop/forum for young women ages 11-16 years old supported by The Junior League of Reading, Pa, Inc. (jlr) The purpose of The summit is to engage a diverse group of young women from Reading and berks county in a meaningful dialogue that will 1) expand their developmental assets, 2) cultivate their leadership skills, and 3) empower them to make a difference in their community through civic engagement and The creation of a community project. The summit aligns with our focus area of youth empowerment
