Program areas at The Kehrein Center for the Arts Foundation
The brainchild of Austin activist the late Glen Kehrein, the Kehrein Center fosters a diverse and equitable arts ecosystem in Chicago by providing a larger and more visible platform from which small theater and music ompanies, many of which focus on people of color, can express their points of view. The Kehrein Center also serves as the home of Catalyst Circle Rock's orchestra, sponsored by the Ravinia Festival. This 50-member student orchestra includes students in grades 4-8 and provides daily music instruction. In addition, the space serves additional opportunities in the arts for both Circle Rock students and neighboring public schools. The Kehrein Center's 850-seat theater, gallery, and community space strengthens civic engagement and communal empowerment and offers expanded performance opportunities for artists, area schools, and the community.
