Program areas at The Knitting Guild Association
TKGA provides educational conferences, specifically an educational online conference called Next Level Knitting Conference as well as an in-person retreat. The online conference has a purchase price and provides three days of online classes- some live and some pre-recorded- as well as break out rooms, and 6 months access to recorded content. There is no limit on how many can join the online conference. The in-person retreat is rotated in varying locals from East Coast, Midwest, and West Coast and has a 50-person limit.
TKGA produces a quarterly, electronic educational journal, Cast On, to members that contains educational articles, book reviews, yarn reviews, patterns with educational aspects, and technical articles. Members also receive the monthly newsletter called K2tog Newsletter, which has educational offerings as well as member news.TKGA had 3,138 members in 2023.
TKGA offers educational classes that are done remotely as correspondence courses. A cornerstone of TKGA is its Master Hand Knitting certification program, comprised of three levels. Knitters submit their knitting, writing, and technical knowledge to a panel of Master Hand Knitters for their review and comments. Upon successful completion of all three certification levels, the student becomes a Master Knitter.
