Program areas at The Massry Residence

Daughters of Sarah Housing Company is authorized to operate an enriched Housing program and assisted living facility for elderly adults as licensed by The new york state department of health and an independent Housing facility for senior citizens. Daughters is a 56 unit facility providing for The personal care and security needs of frail and disabled seniors, a number of whom are indigent. By meeting all of The personal care needs of our residents in a warm, clean, loving and inviting environment, Daughters insures that its residents are able to live and age in a dignified, respectful, and self-independent manner appropriate to their health condition and personal requirements. The goal of The services provided is to enable The residents to maximize their independence and enrich The quality of their lives. Programs that all meld to achieve our goal include: The availability of round The clock personal care staff, case management, kosher meals prepared in accordance with jewish dietary laws, daily activity programming for both physical and mental stimulation appropriate to resident acuity levels, regular entertainment programs, weekly jewish sabbath services, celebration of all jewish holidays (and coordination of activities around The holiday themes), trips and excursions to community programs and other scheduled events calculated to bring happiness to The lives of our residents. Residents are treated as unique individuals and all have personalized care plans that identify The services that they will receive. As their care needs change The plans are adjusted accordingly. Daughters further offers respite care to adults in The community. This short-term service provides up to thirty days of a loving, safe, appropriately monitored care in an assisted living facility for individuals needing and desiring to experience such a level of care.
We are engaged in an ongoing process to review campus-wide operations and study The feasability, desirability, and viability of expanding such operations to incorporate other levels of assisted living, independent living, community based matters, and other potential mission related lines of health care services. In that context, Daughters has been licensed by The nys department of health as an enhanced assisted living facility, which enables us to further assist elder residents with The challenges of daily living without requiring them to transfer to more expensive and more restrictive levels of health care.
We provide scholarships to residents whose ability to pay for The cost of their care is diminished, and whose overall financial resources are generally less than fifty percient (50%) of The average resources of The general population in The surrounding areas. The scholarships are based on a five (5) year retrospective review of an applicant's bank and related records. Qualifying applicants will receive scholarships through support from The harry and jeanette weinberg scholarship endowment, which was established and is maintained for this purpose with The Daughters of Sarah jewish foundation, Inc. These scholarships enable residents to remain in a care setting more appropriate to their personal needs. Without scholarship support, qualifying residents might otherwise be compelled to transfer to a more restrictive, more expensive, and unnecessary health care setting -- but one that is paid for by federal and state governments, such as a nursing home. The scholarships enable us to help reduce The burden on governmental resources and preserve The dignity and independence of residents.
