Program areas at Metropolitan Community College Foundation
As the nonprofit fundraising arm for mcc, the Foundation services over 20,000 students annually by addressing their financial and educational needs through scholarships, educational enhancement programs, improvement of learning facilities. Many programs take place on the five mcc campuses around the Metropolitan area. The flights of fancy annual kite festival draws 35,000 students and Community members. The chancellor's martin luther king, jr. Scholarship luncheon brings over 1,000+ Community reprresentatives to raise awareness and funding support for scholarships. Additionally, the Foundation administers scholarships and endowments, athletic, alumni and donor recognition events, and leads the annual fundraising campaign. Other projects include student emergency book funds which provides assistance to students in purchasing needed textbooks, lab supplies, and other expenses, providing awards for art shows held at the carter art center, and activities and programs held on the various campuses and in the Community throughout.
Scholarships are the signature program of the mcc Foundation providing financial support for tuition and academic coaching for students with financial need. Close to 50% of mcc students require assistance in order to realize their dreams of achieving a higher education. Many students receiving Foundation scholarships are the first in their families to attend College and the scholarships have changed the lives of recipients and their families.
