Program areas at The Mr and MRS SH Wong Center for the Study of Multinational Corporations
For the year ended December 31, 2017, the Wong Center for the Study of Multinational Corporations further developed programs to fulfill its mission.
2023 research activities in 2023, The Wong mnc Center had three major, ongoing research projects: (a) a collaborative book project on chinese overseas ports in southeast and south asia which likely will be published in 2024 with routledge; (b) an edited book project about The effects of chinese outward investment in southeast asia which has good prospects to enter The publication process with routledge in 2024; and (c) a multi-year book project examining china's digital silk road (dsr). Dr. jean-marc f. blanchard, The Wong mnc Center's executive director, is editing and contributing chapters to The first two books as well as authoring The third book. for The dsr project, dr. blanchard undertook research trips to malaysia and thailand. Dr. blanchard also undertook research for his Wong mnc Center blogs as well as The Center's online publication "hot topics for mncs, cool analysis." 2023 publications and public outreach activities in july, The Wong mnc Center's well-anticipated book chinese overseas ports in europe and The americas (routledge, 2024) appeared in print. Dr. jean-marc f. blanchard, Wong mnc Center executive director, contributed two chapters to this book. In november, nikkei asia, a leading paper specializing in east asian political and economic affairs published and widely promoted an op-ed by dr. blanchard on a new chinese invested airport in cambodia. The same month, east asia forum published an op-ed by dr. blanchard, entitled "pondering The bri's alleged new roads," which considered The future of china's belt and road initiative (bri). In 2023, dr. blanchard also published three "hot topics for mncs, cool analysis" pieces: one on china's 20th party congress and two sessions; a second on us efforts to restrict american investment in china; and a third on The prospects for The india-middle east-europe economic corridor. 2023 public presentations/interviews in march, dr. jean-marc f. blanchard, Wong mnc Center executive director, presented a two papers-one on chinese outward fdi and technology transfer and The second on china's digital silk road-at The international studies association (The world's largest association of international relations researchers) annual meeting in montreal, canada. In july, dr. blanchard participated in a panel presenting The findings in chinese overseas ports in europe and The americas at The china goes global association annual conference in italy. In october, dr. blanchard was an invited participant at a conference on The chinese "debt trap" narrative in denver, Colorado. The same month, he gave an invited presentation at The royal university of cambodia.
