The New Center for Psychoanalysis aims to deepen the understanding of being human through the theory and practice of psychoanalysis. Its mission is to foster the study and advancement of psychoanalysis in its therapeutic, scientific, and cultural aspects while encouraging professional and scientific relations of psychoanalysts. NCP has a well-established tradition of lifelong learning and passing on specialized knowledge of psychoanalytic theory and practice. Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, NCP continued to meet them in the 2021-2022 year.

Program areas at The New Center for Psychoanalysis

Ncp provided in-depth theoretical and clinical programs for licensed mental health professionals to i) become psychoanalysts in its multi-year intensive training program, ii) earn a certificate in psychoanalytic psychotherapy in working with adults or with children and adolescents. The psychoanalytic training involves The student in classroom seminars and supervised clinical cases to gain The skills to treat patients with underlying issues and esp. With treatment resistant situations for whom short term solutions do not provide relief. The psychoanalytic psychotherapy program allows The students to build on The coursework taken to attain licensure in their chosen discipline through reading, seminars, and consultative groups sessions, where their work with patients can be discussed and explored in a supportive environment to learn to deepen The treatment.the ncp library & archive is a resource servicing students, faculty and members. The library provides access to a large collection of books on The theory and practice of Psychoanalysis and further aspects of psychoanalytic thinking. It contains subscriptions to The major professional journals so that current scholarly papers are available for study so that instructors can utilize current information in their course materials. Members can utilize this resource to continue lifelong learning/study groups and to support their own research into understanding, diagnosis and treatment of patients. The archive tracks The history and important influence of ncp's early members in promoting psychoanalytic theory and practice and developing theory. The archive is available to The public for free through ncp's website portal.ncp is dedicated to cultivating an open and informed leadership and membership and is committed to an inclusive culture where diversity is valued. The faculty and students and ncp committees work to collaborate and co-sponsor programs that promote a greater awareness of mental health needs in under-resourced populations. Courses and workshops are planned and presented to our faculty and students, The greater mental health community in los angeles and nationally through The use of zoom. This technology fosters dialogue between teachers and audiences across The us.
Ncp volunteer committees plan and produce extension programs and scientific meetings for local, regional, and international audiences to apply psychoanalytic concepts to individuals and society and expand The accessibility of affordable psychoanalytically oriented programs with free or low-fee registrations for students. Licensed mental health professionals enhance their knowledge in theory and practice by enrolling in continuing education programs on a variety of topics relevant to their areas of interest and their clinical practice needs, as well as meeting The requirements for license renewal.
