Program areas at The New York Milk Bank
As The impact of The covid-19 pandemic began to diminish, The New York Milk bank(nymb) was faced with a different set of difficulties related to supply chain issues and rising costs. However, despite these challenges, nymb continued to fulfill The mission of providing safely pasteurized donor human Milk to premature and medically fragile babies and reached two important milestones: dispensing over 1 million ounces of donor Milk and screening 5,000 potential Milk donors since inception in 2016. In 2022, hospital demand for donor Milk expanded and nymb served over 45 hospitals, a 10 percent increase versus 2021. To support this increase, Milk donation volume increased 10 percent with nearly 1,200 Milk donations received. Additionally, interest in exclusive breastfeeding increased and nymb established a bridge Milk program which is designed to support a mother until her own supply is sufficient to meet The needs of her baby. Nymb also ensured The safety and quality control of The storage, handling, tracking, and dispensing of donor Milk. In 2022, nymb maintained over two dozen Milk depots, which are collection sites located throughout nys and nj. To promote The use of donor Milk in The hospital setting for premature babies, nymb continued to deliver remote presentations to hospital staff. With its strong social media presence, nymb continued to communicate to The public to donate and receive this life saving Milk. In addition to collecting and dispensing donor Milk, nymb played a positive role within The community by providing opportunuties for volunteers to assist our staff with tasks important to The functioning of The Milk Bank. Nymb donated dozens of New mother gifts to families in need accross The tri-state area. Lastly, nymb contributed to The professional development of future healthcare leaders by hosting several dietetic interns who gained valuable experience at The New York Milk Bank.
