Program areas at The Normandy Institute
Events hosted by the Normandy Institute (the "Institute") during the annual commemoration of D-Day are a core component of its mission. Celebrating the remaining veterans as part of the 79th D-Day Anniversary week afforded the Institute the opportunity to strengthen bonds with key partners, such as the various U.S. military academies, the U.S. WWII Museum, government representatives, distinguished universities and donors.
Also in keeping with the educational component of its mission, the Institute continued compiling and editing the Terrain Walks films. The episodes document battlefield walks conducted in Normandy by retired Col. Keith Nightingale for over 40 years. This project will carry on throughout 2024 and into 2025 as enhancements like music, graphics, photos and archival footage are being added to each film to bring the stories to life for a "you are there" experience for viewers.
The Institute sponsored the development of a design concept for a monument dedicated to the Eighth Air Force and its critical role in the events of 1944 and beyond. Our efforts in this endeavor align with our educational goal of teaching the complete history of the Battle of Normandy so that a new generation can benefit from the lessons learned.
