Program areas at The Oasis Center for Women and Girls
Girls can do anything summer camp is held during The summer for 7-8 weeks. It is based on The belief that Girls need a space to be together while introducing them to The wide range of accomplishments of Women and possibilities for themselves. Girls circles - during this nationally recognized curriculum-based support group, Girls ages 9-18 are able to explore relevant issues in their lives in a safe, structured setting. Girls circles are designed to foster self- esteem, help Girls maintain authentic and healthy connections with peers, counter trends toward self-doubt, and allow for genuine self-expression through verbal sharing and creative activity. Single mother support groups - single mother support groups are provided in different locations in town with different groups of Women, once a week. Babysitting is available onsite for children 12 years and younger and dinner is provided for mothers and their children. Mothers are also given referrals, if needed, for individual counseling and/or other services at Oasis or other agencies able to help their specific needs. Tallahassee/leon county commission on The status of Women and Girls - Oasis provides staff support for a 21 member citizen advisory committee charged by local government with raising awareness about issues affecting Women and Girls, collection data and reporting on The status of Women and Girls in The leon county area, and making policy recommendations to local government. Counseling - individual counseling services are offered for Women 18 years, with a focus on single mothers. Educational programs - programs to raise awareness including Women's history month celebration.
