Program areas at The Ohio Congress of Parents and Teachers
STATE AND NATIONAL CONVENTIONS AND MEETINGS :The Annual State Convention was held April 14-16,2023 in Lewis Center, Ohio. Several workshops and speakers were presented. The Annual National Convention was held June 22-25,2023 in Portland, Oregon.
SCHOLARSHIPS :Scholarships of $ 500.00 each are awarded annually to graduating public high schools who are continuing their education at the college level. The number of scholarships awarded were 19.
MEMBER SERVICES AND ADVOCACY :The Organization provides free information via the Organizations website at ohiopta.org and via social media with Facebook.Some Board Members train delegates on current legislation that is happening at the Ohio Statehouse. Some Board Members also testify to committees at the Statehouse. Others work with groups, legislators and the Governor to have an impact on school funding and legislation involving the education of children.
From Report to Results (R2R) Program :Assists parents to have access to meaningful educational data and the tools to interpret and use data to celebrate achievements and advocate for improvements so that all students have the best and most supportive learning environment possible.
BOARD AND COMMITTEE MEETINGS :Every other month the Board of Directors meet in Columbus,Ohio to inform each other of what they are doing locally and work to set and meet goals they would like to accomplishduring the year.Members also serve on different committees that plan andfollow through on the work of the Board. The committeesare an extension of the Board of Directors and focus on aspecific area.
SUSTAINING ADVOCACY : Educate members on grassroots advocacy practices and current Ohio College and Career Ready Standards through literature distribution, conferences and new materials.
