Program areas at The Oklahoma Foundation for the Education of Deaf Children and Youth
Classroom grants - Each school year The Oklahoma Foundation for the Education of Deaf Children and Youth, Inc. asks that each teacher at the Oklahoma School for the Deaf examine the educational needs of his or her classroom. Additionally, the teachers are asked to be creative as to educational activities that would help further the deaf students' education. These grants include funds for field trips and for classroom supplies. Once the specific requests receive approval from the Oklahoma School for the Deaf personnel, the monetary requests are submitted to the Foundation. These classroom grants affect approximate 100 students.
Teacher/Employee Enhancement Program - Each school year, The Oklahoma Foundation for the Education of Deaf Children and Youth, Inc looks for opportunities to assist the administration of the Oklahoma School for the Deaf in funding advanced teacher training in deaf education. Additionally, the Foundation seeks to assist the administration of the Oklahoma School for the Deaf in encouraging the corresponding teachers and staff to strive for excellence as they work with deaf students. This encouragement is in the form of monetary awards pertaining to Teacher of the Year and Employee of the Year. Approximately 24 teachers and 75 other staff are affected by the Teacher/Employee Enhancement Program.
Student Enhancement Program - Many of the deaf students attending the Oklahoma School for the Deaf live on campus. Therefore, each school year, the Oklahoma Foundation for the Education of Deaf Children and Youth Inc looks for opportunites to assist the Oklahoma School for the Deaf administration in making the students feel they are a part of a 'deaf school family'. To accomplish this goal, the Foundation funds various activities that help the students build strong relationships with their peers and teachers. Additionally, through the Student Enhancement Program, the Foundation provides leadership awards to student leaders as well as scholarships to graduates who meet certain qualifications. Overall, approximatley 100 students are affected by the Student Enhancement Program.
