Program areas at The Peace Appeal Foundation
In the past fiscal year, The Peace Appeal collaborated with the partners in the United States, Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Africa on peace and conflict transformation initiatives. This includes partnering with peacemakers promoting dialogue, democracy and human rights, aiding local initiatives seeking to ameliorate those most affected by conflict, and investing in research and knowledge sharing initiatives on non-violence, transitional justice and other topics to build capacity through peacemakers on the ground. Our collaboration with partners continues to be long term. In the year, we continued to provide technical support, research services, facilitation and consultations, in addition to targeted grants to individual peacemakers and institutions in 8 countries. Our support to the democratic movement in Myanmar, including grants to underwrite the translation of the Federal Democracy Charter in multiple local languages, grants and technical assistance to stakeholders and staff of the National Unit Consultative Council ("NUCC"), with a special focus on the NUCC's committee focusing on the Transitional Justice practices and policies. Additionally, through partnerships in the Southeast Asia region and in the United States, we have provided grants for housing and livelihood support for political refugees from Myanmar and internally displaced persons, specifically those who continue to play significant roles in the democratic movement. Our partnership with the University of Virginia's Democratic Futures Project has led to multple collaborations among democratic advocates and students and faculty. In the Middle East and Europe, our efforts included technical assistance, training and grant, making to institutions engaged in inter-religious and political dialogue among stakeholders to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. In Southern Africa we continue to work with leading religious and civil society organizations who are engaged in aiding transitional justice and human rights initiatives. While in the Levant, we continue to offer small grants to support local initiatives to aid refugees from the Syrian conflict.
