Program areas at The Reentry Initiative
PRE-RELEASE SERVICES - The Reentry Initiative Tri offers a six-month, evidence based and trauma informed program developed by Dr. Stephanie Covington, renowned for prison rehabilitation. In 2022, due to the ongoing effects of covid-19, prisons statewide experienced a labor shortage which affected their ability to run programs consistently. Hence, TRI focused on external programs in 2022.
Peer Support Services TRI hired and trained certified peer support specialists to provide services through the lens of lived experience to our clients. Peer Support specialists are in active recovery and have successfully transitioned from incarceration to life in the community with the support of TRI. Peer Support specialists participate in outreach and engagement of our client base, help enroll clients in support programs, and co-facilitate our gender-specific recovery and trauma educational programming.
POST-RELEASE SERVICES - Upon release, returning citizens are given a welcome backpack which includes many of the essentials, ensuring they have food and clothing, and helping them access their housing. TRI staff case manage participants to assist with finding jobs, training, and mental health services. TRI also provides transitional supportive housing assistance in the form of housing vouchers to help our participants upon release or upon referral from parole. TRI served 127 individuals in post release services in 2022.
