The Sato Project rescues abused and abandoned dogs in Puerto Rico, known as "satos", with a mission to raise awareness of the island's stray animal crisis and reduce their number through rescue, community outreach, and spay/neuter programs. Program areas at The Sato Project

The Sato Project is dedicated to rescuing abused and abandoned dogs in puerto rico, locally referred to as "satos". During our first several years of operations, we focused our efforts on a place known as "dead dog beach" in The municipality of yabucoa, one of The island's poorest. Since hurricane maria in 2017 we have significantly expanded our rescue efforts. We have rescued over 7,200 dogs to date, rehabilitated them with The highest standards of veterinary care, and placed them in loving homes in The mainland u.s. we also work to address The underlying causes of overpopulation, abandonment, and abuse in puerto rico through community outreach and our low-cost spay, neuter, and vaccine program.
The Sato Project is working to make permanent change for animal welfare in puerto rico by tackling The problem of overpopulation through community outreach and subsidized veterinary care and spay/neuter programs. To date, we have spayed/neutered over 8,500 dogs and cats through our community outreach program, tsp also include canine vaccination clinics as part of community outreach.
