Program areas at School Mindfulness Project

Smp provides training to underserved School communities in the philadelphia School district on a school-wide basis. The five phases of the smpeaceful School program include: the mindful teacher immersion (7 weeks), the mindful classroom community training (14 weeks), the mindful teacher training (10 weeks), integration oversight (yearlong), and ongoing yoga classes.through this direct service model and our signature five-phase curriculum, a team of smp educators works on-site with classroom communities, providing a foundational training in Mindfulness to students and teachers, supporting them through all aspects of programming, from program readiness to training, and classroom and schoolwide integration of practices. Upon completion of our program, students, teachers, and the classroom community as a whole, are equipped to integrate Mindfulness into the fabric of classroom life, while the School becomes eligible to receive ongoing yoga classes for students. Smp currently serves two whole School communities per year.provision of program materials, curriculum, staff/contractor uniformseach classroom is provided with and gifted an smpeace kit, consisting of a singing bowl, meditation jar, mindfulness-based kid-lit, smpeace leader bracelets and a bevy of additional classroom materials and totems to ensure successful integration of programming. As programming progresses to yoga time, every student receives an eco-conscious yoga mat and mat carrier.smp has five curriculum training manuals. They include the mindful teacher immersion, the mindful classroom community training, the mindful teacher training, and mindful moments journals for both students and teachers. Classroom teachers receive the mindful teacher immersion curriculum handbook and mindful teacher training curriculum handbook, while students and teachers each receive their own dedicated mindful moment journal.smp educators receive all of the above materials a part of their training, 2 smpeace t-shirts and 1 smpeace sweatshirt to be worn while teaching.staffing and trainingin order to fulfill our growing program needs, smp hires, trains, and retains a diverse team of educators and trainees, with a minimum of two serving each classroom. Under the supervision of our executive director/curriculum trainer, training takes place on-site in the classroom and remotely through observation, and readiness assessment.program overview during the 2022-23 academic yearduring the 2022-23 academic year, a team of 6 educators and assistant educatiors provided the yearlong smpeaceful School program (exclusive of yoga classes) on site- to two k-8 psd partner schools, kenderton School in north philadelphia and allen m. stearne School in the lower north east. At stearne School we served all k-5 classrooms, associated staff and two autism classrooms. At kenderton, we served grades 1-3 and two autism classrooms.we are particularly proud of the data impact studies and assessments that we implemented. Some highlights from the exciting feedback collected from classroom teacher surveys are:100% of classroom teachers report students are better able to self-regulate their behavior- kenderton 2022- stearne autistic support 2023100% of classroom teachers report that students interact more kindly with them and their classmates- kenderton 2022- stearne autistic support 202392% of classroom teachers report that their classroom community "changed for the better"- stearne 2023100% of classroom teachers report sustained improvements in their classroom learning environment- kenderton 2022a final program accomplighment we'd like to share related to the fall 2023 installation of smpeace yoga rooms in our partner schools. Smp partnered with metcalfe architecture and design, a philadelphia based architectural firm to obtain designs for yoga rooms on a pro-bono basis. These designed can serve as a template for all smpeace yoga rooms going forward.
