The Shepherds Center of Fairfax-Burke

Accompanied medical transportation and companion shopping programs this is The organizations flagship program. The organization provides free transportation to medical appointments and errands of necessity to adults over 50 that reside in The fairfax/burke areas. Volunteer drivers accompany clients to ensure safety and assistance as needed., remain with The client and drive them home at The conclusion of their appointment. The organization expanded its service area many years ago to include southern fairfax county locations. In 2023 The organization provided 3,221 rides to clients, and 166 clients were served, with an average of 75-80 active drivers each month.

Other programs services include:LUNCH N LIFE PROGRAMS PROVIDE EDUCATION, ENRIGHMENT, AND SOCIAL ACTIVITIES. FIVE LUNCH PROGRAMS WERE HELD WITH 330 ATTENDEES. Adventures in Learning: AIL IS A EDUCATIONAL ENRICHMENT PROGRAM FOR SENIORS. TWO AIL SESSIONS, CONSISTING OF 4 PRESENTATIONS EACH, WERE HELD WITH 223 ATTENDEES.HANDY HELPER: ASSISTS OLDER ADULTS IN COMMUNITY WITH MINOR HOME REPAIRS. STARTING IN THE 4THY QUARTER, THIS EFFORT COMPLETED 5 TASKS. FRIENDLY CALLER/VISITOR:VOLUNTEERS MAKE REGULAR PHONE CALLS/VISITS TO HOMEBOUND/ ISOLATED OLDER ADULTS. THIS YEAR 13 VOLUNTEERS CALLED AND/OR VISITED 23 CLIENTS, WITH 878 CALLS AND 209 VISITS.

Program Activities: EXERCISE CASSES ENHANCE HEALTH AND COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS. YOGA EXERCISE VIRTUAL CLASSES WERE CONDUCTED IN 2023, WITH 123 ZOOM CLASSES AND 6,179 PARTICIPANTS.
