Transportationthe Silicon Valley transportation team co-authored clean transportation bill sb 922 (weiner), signed into law. Sb 922 (weiner) streamlines ceqa to make it easier to build common-sense transit and transportation projects that are better for The environment. Staff also successfully engaged to support business interests on efforts by transit advocates to tax businesses in a 2022 or housing and community development. 2024 transportation infrastructure measure that would have granted regional authority to put business taxes on The ballot without any detail on how The funds would be spent. Transportation staff also successfully advocated to ensure that caltrain electrification and bart's Silicon Valley extension phase ii projects were 2 of 3 megaprojects placed in The top tier of regional priorities for state and federal funding.
Racial justice and equityin 2022, svlg established key strategic initiatives in alignment with member company key objectives to advance a new vision of corporate citizenship for The innovation economy one that transforms The face of business Leadership and promotes a more diverse and inclusive working environment where all Valley residents can thrive. We launched The website for pledge 25x25, to lead The conversation around The dei challenges, opportunities, unique insights and best practices identified by The svlg business community. Additionally, in partnership with select historically black colleges & universities (hbcu), svlg has worked to develop closer ties between The Silicon Valley's tech sector. This collaboration aims to build social and political capital between hbcu leaders and Silicon Valley corporate leaders, increase The representation of hbcu students and alumni among Silicon Valley tech professionals and entrepreneurs, and to build sustainable networks between these two ecosystems. The highlight of this advocacy included a trip to Washington dc made by ceo ahmad thomas and select staff to directly advocate for these aims before The congressional black caucus. Lastly, core to svlg and racial justice and equity portfolio's mission is to remain active on national issues regarding The law - especially when it pertains to laws enacted and/or designed to redress racial injustice. This past autumn, we joined 82 corporations and business groups who affirmed The crucial need for a racially diverse workforce and signed an amicus brief specifying The value and importance of racially and ethnically diverse student bodies and showing The positive impacts of affirmative action. Most recently, we have maintained our correspondence with The naacp legal defense fund (ldf) in anticipation of a ruling, expected next month. As businesses depend on graduating cohorts of qualified students for The development of its future workforce, svlg and The business community must be united in our continued assertion of The interests served by maintaining racially and ethnically diverse college and university campuses.
Housing & community developmentthe svlg housing team sponsored a housing streamlining bill, ab 2234 (rivas), signed into law. Successfully supported creation of over 10,000 housing units in The bay area including innovative projects by members meta and google that will remake old infrastructure into mixed-use, walkable communities with amenities and jobs.hosted an infrastructure event and roundtables had 11 high level speakers on housing including assembly housing chair, deputy secretary of u.s. department of housing and urban development.
