Program areas at The Skatepark Project
The grant program is The organization's financial assistance to communities building free, public skate parks. Twice annually The board of directors meets to review grant applications and select recipients based on several criteria, including median household income, current access to skate parks, scope of proposed Project, demonstrated work completed to fund raise and create community awareness, and other local data demonstrating community is underserved. Revenue for The grant program is generated through sponsorship, donations, grants, and auctions.
Built to play program: with matching-grant funds of up to $250,000 and a supplemental grant of up to $50,000 to encourage environmentally friendly design and construction, The built to play Skatepark program supports community groups and municipal entities seeking to create free, public skateparks for underserved communities in southeast Michigan and western new york. The program also provides advisory services and advocacy training to assist groups in organizing and managing their efforts.
The organization's technical assistance program is The educational component of its work. Communities pursuing new public skate parks call, e-mail, or write The Skatepark Project with a range of questions about The skate park-development process. The Skatepark Project staff provide guidance and instruction through The sometimes complicated process to ensure that each community understands what its options are at all times, and to help them achieve The best, most cost-effective skate parks possible. Organization staff also research which communities are considering or have started a skate park Project, and proactively contact them to learn if The Skatepark Project can be of assistance.
Youth outreach program: The youth outreach program conducts research about The needs of youth and assists local organizations that provide skateboarding programming to children. Currently, a research Project is being conducted by The foundation and usc, and a youth affiliate pilot Project currently provides support and funding to five organizations that work with youth in cities across The us.the amount for other programs represent past grant awards that have been returned due to The Project they were funding ceased operation.
Fellowship program:the tsp fellowship program is a twelve month two phase training and Project design opportunity. Through training, mentorship, and resources, tsp will build more knowledgeable, diverse and equipped skate park advocates, designers and programmers. The program is designed to include a diverse group of bipoc people aged 18-24. After successful matriculation, we hope to encourage The growth of Skatepark advocates.
