Program areas at The Society for Classical Studies
Annual meeting: meeting with variety of panels, seminars and paper sessions, held jointly with The archaeological institute of america attendance 2500-3000.
Placement: assists members in obtaining jobs in The classics and outside academia.
Scholarly resources include:[a] research support: grants to major ongoing projects in lexicography and bibliography and annual awards; and[b] publications: dissemination of scholarly work in Classical Studies by means of books, software, newsletters, a scholarly journal and a blog.
[1] education: efforts to improve The teaching of The classics at all levels through The dissemination of information on useful teaching techniques, recognition of excellence in teaching & awarding of scholarships for papyrology, pedagogy, and teacher training. Placement: assists members in obtaining jobs in The classics and outside academia.
[2] outreach: seeks to promote a wider public understanding and appreciation of classics.
[3] professional matters: oversees The social, ethical, and professional contexts of The discipline of classics, and awards scholarships to students from historically under-represented groups.
[4] special projects: outreach initiatives and stipends for graduate students and contingent faculty during The covid-19 pandemic.
