Program areas at The Tandana Foundation
Tandana coordinated 1 volunteer program in ecuador, which allowed 6 north americans to share in a cultural exchange in 1 rural community in ecuador while learning about The local culture. Our internship program also allowed 3 north americans to have a cultural exchange over 5 months each with ecuadorians and to provide english lessons, support local agricultural initiatives, and support our summer school program and community projects.
Tandana provided scholarships for 100 rural ecuadorian students, which allowed them to attend secondary school, and for 20 rural ecuadorian students to attend university. We provided books, supplies, uniforms, transportation costs, internet, and other fees. Tandana also created The dr. ash b. varma, m.d. Scholarship program in mali with 37 students studying professions that are needed in their region.
Tandana provided funding for several community initiatives in mali: started construction on a new school in dani; tommo so literacy program for 300 women; leadership workshops for 100 women; student mothers program for 5 young mothers; creation of a program to enable 75 internally displaced children to attend school in bandiagara; support for teachers for The elementary schools in yarou plateau and andjine; creation of 5 new school gardens; started construction of The two new grain banks; support for The olouguelemo environmental association which led The following projects - built more than 18,600 meters worth of stone contour lines to prevent erosion and retain water in The soil; practices assisted natual regeneration on 7,479 trees; held a training session on making improved cookstoves; made 95 stoves; measured 2,725 acres of forests protected by The association; emergency food support while residents expanded ponds; creation of a menstrual kit workshop in bandiagara; provided school first aid stations to two schools; five new women's associations received startup funding to start businesses in market gardening, indigo dyeing, and transforming cotton into cloth. A cotton and indigo bank in dassi was completed. Construction of a reservoir in moe-leye. We provided emergency food support and tools so that residents of 31 villages could expand 13 ponds, thus conserving more water that they can use for gardening and livestock.in ecuador, Tandana supported projects that included; continued construction of The second story of a community center in muenala. Provided paint to The school in tangali to re-paint traditional games on The school grounds. Provided materials to make a covered ecua-volleyball court in The community of agualongo. In-person summer school program for 20 students in ecuador; support for The school in quichinche to paint The school; install a bike rack, and build a hand-washing station thanks to an exchange program with sharon high school; support for a music and art teacher at The elementary school in urkusiki; taught one course for whitman college, on andean and western healthcare in otavalo; donations of medical supplies to The otavalo hospital thanks to a donation from boston scientific; one-day medical clinics in The ecuadorian communities of minas chupa, padre chupa, muenala and cambugan. Community health and well-being program in ecuador: 209 patients received support with medical follow-up care; 15 patients received support with vision follow-up care; 11 patients received glasses; 14 months' supply of baby formula was delivered to 2 infants; 11 patients received hearing devices; 3 patients accessed surgeries.
