Program areas at The Vertile Foundation
Housing: The Vertile Foundation has been providing a loving home, food, medical care, and counseling for orphaned and abandoned children in carrefour, a suburb of port-au-prince, haiti, since 2010. We currently house 20 children and assist dozens more in The area with extra food, education, supplies, and counseling. Violent gangs that now control port-au-prince are blocking roadways and kidnapping, raping, and murdering civilians. It was no longer safe to operate our home in this area, so The Vertile Foundation built a new children's home in leogane, haiti, and moved The children to this safer location, within a three minute walk to our school. When fully completed, this new facility will house 24 children and have a larger capacity for community outreach programs such as summer camps, tutoring, and language lessons.
Education: in 2019, The Vertile Foundation opened a school in leogane, haiti, which currently educates over 150 students. We also provide teacher training and act as a regional testing center for our district. Only 20% of children in haiti make it past 6th grade due to The country's extreme poverty and violence. Sixty percent of haitians live in poverty, and recent earthquakes and hurricanes have decimated many schools, most of which have never been rebuilt. The poverty and lack of educational facilities have left The education system in shambles, contributing to The cycle of poverty. Education is one of The best ways to lift a child, family, and community out of poverty.teacher training: our excellent track record has earned us The privilege of being a training center for teachers and school administrators in The region.testing centers: Vertile house also has one of The few testing centers in The region.
