Program areas at The Village Community

The Village Community is a non-profit organization, founded in 2013 by parents of adult children with intellectual disabilities, with the purpose of providing high-quality, engaging experiences to our members so that they can continue to live happy, healthy, productive lives. We have a commitment to building relationships with members, member families, staff, and the broader community. As part of this mission, we serve as a partner with the University of Iowa and Kirkwood Community College to provide on-site learning opportunities to students interested in working with this population in a professional capacity. We have been recognized as a thought leader and continue to provide consultation to stakeholders and community partners on our model of service provision that has significantly less overhead and administrative costs than other similar service providers. This has translated to low staff turnover and a more positive member experience. In the fall of 2021, we renewed our CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) accreditation for our day habilitation program with no identified recommendations, an achievement earned by only three percent of programs surveyed nationally. In addition to a thriving day habilitation program, our residential program is also experiencing growth. We recognize that our staff are our most valuable asset and we remain committed to ensuring they are offered competitive wages and benefits. Our reserve funds remain stable and available should they be needed to see us through another pandemic or in the future if we experience significant, unexpected changes with Medicaid reimbursement rates as we have in the past.
