During The fiscal year ended june 30, 2023, vra accomplished its exempt purpose by continuing to provide a place for The University of Virginia men's crew to row, provided The coaching staff to instruct and guide The crew team, and provided The necessary boats and equipment to enable The crew to compete at The highest intercollegiate level with other colleges and universities throughout The united states. During The last year, approximately 45 undergraduates participated in The men's crew program. In july The coaching staff conducted a summer camp for 60 high school students.
Vra also helped to interest and to instruct community members in The sport of Rowing and received financial support for The men's and women's Rowing programs by renting space in The boathouse to a local public high school, and to The local community Rowing program for boat storage, and provided them with access to The water by way of The dock facilities owned and maintained by The vra. During The last year, approximately 150 people from The community participated in these high school and local Rowing programs. Some of those individuals provided financial assistance and in-kind support to vra by assisting at regattas, housing visiting rowers, maintaining The grounds of The vra property, and serving as officers and directors of vra.
In addition, vra provided space for The Virginia women's varsity crew to store their boats, for indoor training, and to launch their boats on The rivanna reservoir. Without access to The reservoir, The University of Virginia women's crew program would not have been able to compete as a varsity intercollegiate sport.
