The mission of the Kansas City Youth Symphony is to educate young musicians through enhanced orchestral experiences and to build the present and future classical music community. The mission of The Youth Symphony of Kansas City is to challenge, educate and inspire students through meaningful and enriching musical experiences. Our mission is to provide an enhanced orchestral experience to young people in grades five through twelve.

Program areas at The Youth Symphony Association of Kansas City

The yskc debut orchestra is a preparatory orchestra made up of students in grades 5-8. Debut orchestra performs arrangements of symphonic literature and original compositions. The yskc philharmonic orchestra is an intermediate full orchestra made up of young musicians in grades 7-12. Philharmonic orchestra performs original compositions and arrangements of symphonic music. The yskc repertory orchestra (formerly academy orchestra) is an advanced full orchestra made up of young musicians in grades 9-12. Repertory orchestra performs movements of standard orchestral repertoire as well as original compositions and arrangements. The yskc Symphony orchestra is an advanced full orchestra made up of high school students in grades 10 -12. Symphony orchestra is The flagship ensemble of The program, performing standard orchestral repertoire. Musicians of repertory orchestra and Symphony orchestra are eligible to join The yskc touring orchestra. Recent tours include performances in ireland in 2016, austria in 2018 and, most recently, at carnegie hall in The summer of 2023. During The 2022-23 year, there were 333 participants in The Youth Symphony program.
