Program areas at Therapy in Motion
Our program is entitled: therapy in motion inc. we furthered our purposes under this program by facilitating treatment for dozens of alcohol and substance abuse clients to transition to a healthier lifestyle. Our organization's specific activities included the following: psycho-educational classes taught throughout the program designed to give the clients a knowledge base about addiction and mental health and how they work in conjunction with one another to exacerbate addiction. We also educated clients on the effects that substance use/abuse has physically, psychologically, socially and within the immediate family affecting their entire lifestyle. The lessons were reinforced through homework assignments given in the form of handouts and self-administered questionnaires to assist the clients in retaining the knowledge and becoming a more productive member of society. Group therapy of 2 hours each session was delivered on a daily. These groups were therapeutic, open process groups designed to assist the clients in discussing whatever difficulties they may be facing and get feedback from the other clients providing several different perspectives on addiction and the lifestyle that accompanies it. There were open discussions as well as role play activities to help the clients better understand ways that they can deal with addiction and the underlying causes such as mental health issues and/or physical, psychological and sexual abuse. Individual therapy was scheduled on a weekly basis for approximately 1 hour each session to discuss matters that the client may not feel comfortable talking about in group sessions such as mental health issues and/or sensitive issues such as sexual abuse and domestic violence. These sessions were open to the client's family if the client and the family were agreeable to family and/or couples counseling in order to more effectively deal with these types of issues. Skills training included classes on healthy relationships, communication skills and styles, job seeking, resume building, interview process, self- control techniques, work ethics, housekeeping and personal hygiene. These skills assist in becoming self-sufficient and learning how to build the structure to promote the development of a healthy, happy, and positive lifestyle without the use of substances. Recreational activities such as bathing in the natural hot springs, yoga, physical exercise, hiking, swimming, fishing, volleyball, softball, board games, movies, 12 step meetings, community service projects and other activities as requested by the clientele and approved by administrative staff aided in the realization that enjoyable activities can be achieved without the use of substances. Associated fees were set at 4,500 monthly as determined by what it costs to run the facility each month. Scholarships were also provided according to need and availability of funds to extend such service. We operated 24 hours a day, 7 days per week. The program, including its planning and administration, took place at 165 west main street, lava hot springs, id 83246. John c. fleming, lcsw/qsudp conducted the program.
