In our 54th year, thesecondopinion remains true to its mission to provide free, comprehensive second opinions to adults in California diagnosed with cancer. Our goal is to offer cancer patients and their families, who would not otherwise have access to such services, with a free, multidisciplinary second opinion, that can clarify their cancer diagnosis and assist them in making informed decisions about their treatment options.In 2023 thesecondopinion accomplish these objectives:1. We served 180 patients and 135 family members or friends that accompanied thepatient to a virtual review panel.a. Each patient received the clarity they needed to make informed medical decisions and manage their disease.2. Each cancer patient and their family/friends participated in an open dialogue with a panel of cancer specialists (Medical Oncologist, Radiation Oncologist, Radiologist, Surgeon, Pathologist and other cancer specialists). They received the clarity they needed to make informed medical decisions and manage their disease3. Thirty-four volunteer cancer specialists provided over 867 hours of professional review. 4. Outreach activities reached over 1,000 individuals from; professional medical organizations, cancer conferences and community agencies. Each of these outreach activities provided information about the value of a second opinion in saving or improving lives.
