Program areas at Thirteenth Street Neighborhood Advisory Committee
Animal Rescue program was operated to accept contributions for capturing, spaying, and neutering neighborhood animals, primarily the cat population and to provide needed veterinary services. Community education and outreach programs are implemented to reduce the wild population, spread of disease, unwanted litters, etc. Maintenance and care are provided to feral colonies. Whenever possible, animals are socialized and adopted out.
Other general accomplishments include holding monthly meetings with city officials and the public to share, collaborate and / or present information, install median plants, provide extra childrens swimming pool hours, and assistance for a festival in the park. During the Covid shutdown our normally in-person meetings were converted to Zoom calls.
The Joyce Ellington library is located within the historic Northside neighborhood near downtown San Jose. This library contains books, periodicals, and other media and provides other valuable community services, such as internet training, community service for young adults through the Teens Reach Group, and many children's events and story times. These funds were established to accept donations and used books to generate resources to help maintain and upgrade the library in its continuing endeavors, including library programs for the community. Due to COVID-19, no in-person activities were occurring and so no funding was requested or spent on extra programs.
