Program areas at Topos Institute
Our research focuses on collaborative modelling, collective intelligence, and technology research ethics. Highlights from 2023 include work on polynomial functors, categorical systems theory, dynamic categories, nlp and ai for mathematical research, operadic systems engineering, collaborative pandemic modelling, diagrammatic differential equations, and generalized statistical theories. This work is shared through research publications, talks, and blog articles. In 2023, Topos researchers produced 18 articles and gave 23 public-facing talks. More information on this and our other programs can be found here: https://topos.site/work/
Our education program focuses on producing freely available online materials for those learning category theory and related topics in advanced mathematics. We seek to advance a more inclusive mathematical community, producing materials targeting audiences historically less centered in the mathematical community. We also seek to share much of the cutting edge research as it happens. This includes work on our website, blog, and youtube channel. In 2023, our youtube channel reached over 10,000 subscribers and 375 videos.
Topos co-organises and participates in workshops and conferences pertaining to mathematics research, ai, technology and society, and other aspects of our mission. Activities in 2023 included ethics, technology, and embracing the 21st century, finding the right abstractions 2 and 3, the singapore conference on ai for the global good, modelling consciousness, categories for consciousness science, and the mathematical metaphysics symposia, the adjoint school applied category theory, and women in logic.
