Program areas at Tradeswomen
Twi works with pre-apprenticeship programs throughout the bay area in support of outreach recruitment and mentorship. Twi has recruited women for numerous cohorts with its close partners and provides curriculum and instruction support. These training programs increase the pipeline of well-prepared women to enter construction and related trades apprenticeships. Twi also presents a regional women in apprenticeship training institute, a full day of workshops bringing together contractors, apprenticeship coordinators, union representatives, pre-apprenticeship professionals, agency workforce professionals and community based organizations.
TWI sponsored monthly informational workshops for women interested in trades apprenticeships. TWI participated in job fairs and related events reaching hundreds of participants over the course of the year. TWI made referrals to supportive services to address employment barriers (such as lack of childcare and transportation), and we made referrals to organizations for legal help, such as Equal Rights Advocates. We provided outreach and promotion to support the Women Building California and the Nation Conference held in Sacramento, CA with the State and National Building Trades Councils. We maintain a website and list serve with job postings and information of interest to 300 tradeswomen and their allies.
Twi works closely with apprenticeship coordinators and trades apprenticeships providing technical assistance to increase the numbers of women entering and retained in apprenticeship in the bay area and throughout California. Twi puts on a women can build hands on career day in collaboration with the bay area apprenticeship coordinators association annually. The most recent event brought in over 250 young women including over 150 seniors from bay area high schools.twi participates in a national network that assists in women build nations, a national Tradeswomen conference that brings together over 1600 Tradeswomen. Twi assists with workshops as well as ancillary activities such as a training institute for apprenticeship and related professionals and a policy forum to discuss policy issues that affect women in the trades.
