Transatlantic week - as a key milestone for the advancement of the compass project and to deliver our educational purpose tpn was delighted to convene in Washington dc between july 24-27 for our flagship annual event - Transatlantic week 2023. Under the title "fireproofing the eu-us relationship:looking to 2030 and beyond, delegates had the opportunity to review progress and successes with Transatlantic relations to date, to define shorter-term priorities for action, and to recommit to longer-term partnership goals - see httpstpnonlineorgwpcontentuploads... held: - eu-us trade and technology council: stocktake - fireproofing the eu-us relationship: the compass project - Transatlantic partnership priorities to 2024 - the geopolitical shift: the long-lasting impact of russia's invasion of ukraine - the future of ukraine in the Transatlantic partnership - sustainability and agriculture: rising to the climatic, biodiversityand food security challenges - globalization 2.0: should the us and the eu be 'friend-shoring'? - digital transformation: main features of the digital world towards 2040 - digital transformation: can Transatlantic partnership seize the ai opportunity now? - digital transformation: current priorities for action (e.g., a Transatlantic digital single market) - fireproofing the eu-us relationship: strengthening Transatlantic partnership >global overview >towards a more robust platform a renewed Transatlantic declaration >views of legislators >views of business >views on us-eu-nato dimensions - cybersecurity and resilience connecting the regulatory and technical agendas - fortifying the global economy: subsidies, supply chains, and critical raw materials - artificial intelligence priorities for Transatlantic joint action to 2030 - next generation leadership (part 1) - next generation leadership (part 2)development of project entitled: "fireproofing the eu us relationship: in search of a new compass":there is a growing belief that urgent action has to be taken to strengthen the eu us relationship given the broad and deepening challenges lying ahead. We are living through a geopolitical whirlwind which is causing a real sense of fragility. The danger is that instability is becoming a permanent phenomenon. Certainly, americans and europeans share a stake in the unpredictable direction of the war in ukraine; the growing competition with china; the regulatory imperative of the digital economy and the colossal threat posed by climate change. Mostly, it is the us relationship with the eu that will be pivotal for tackling these issues, not through nato. These mounting geopolitical and transnational challenges can only effectively be met with a fireproofing of the eu us relationship. The tpn compass project sets out a simple way to establish a strengthened partnership framework by 2024. These ideas are part of the tpn's overall vision of towards Transatlantic partnership 2030.but the window of opportunity for the eu and the us to work together on these issues will narrow by 2024, with the us presidential and congressional elections coinciding with the end of the terms of both the european commission and the european parliament next year.transatlantic week 2023 had a real sense of urgency as it sought to put forward ideas how to create a more effective eu us relationship, with an eu us summit expected in the autumn.key milestone agreement on next steps establishing a staffer Network: - throughout 2023, before and after Transatlantic week, tpn engaged on the establishment of a staffer Network linking staffers in the us congress with their peers in the us congress with a number of Transatlantic online meetings the closing stages of Transatlantic week were used to draw together ideas and to examine initiatives to enable a predominantly younger generation of future political actors engaged as staffers to be better in touch on issues of mutual concern through for example the launching a tpn staffer Network.
