Program areas at Travelers Aid Society of San Diego
Social Services includes three programs SenioRide, RIDEFinder, and Senior Solutions to assist low-income seniors 60 with a variety of transportation options including taxi-cabs, senior bus passes, door-to-door transit services, and ride-sharing via volunteer drivers or Uber/Lyft which allow seniors to age in place while combating the isolation that may accompany the choice to stay in their own homes. In a program called Moving Up, the organization offers employment assistance tools such as transportation, help with obtaining identification, and resume assistance. Crisis Assistance includes referrals for placement in shelters for single women and families with children assistance to victims of domestic violence, including occasional out-of-County transportation to places of support and safety in a program called Family Reunification and providing bus passes, day passes, case management, and homeless certifications to chronically homeless clients for verified medical or employment appointments.
Visitor Services includes providing information and referral services at the Santa Fe Train Depot, assisting visitors to the region with finding hotels, attractions, restaurants, and providing help navigating todays complicated transit center rules and procedures. The Organization has approximately 30 active volunteers who also provide meet and greet services at transit centers. Volunteer Recruitment Services includes identifying, recruiting, vetting, and shepherding volunteer candidates through the approval and training process for the County of San Diegos Long Term Care Ombudsman Volunteer program.
