Troost Thrift Store strives to be a Beloved Community, as envisioned by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., based on justice, equal opportunity and love for one's fellow human beings. The store is committed to supporting the Kansas City community through proactive community engagement and re-investment programs that enhance the surrounding area. One of its core programs is providing clothing and household goods at low or no cost to economically depressed individuals in the community.

Program areas at Troost Thrift Store

Provide clothing and household goods at low or no cost
With the aim to identify and develop local aspiring Black artists to remain in Kansas City Troost39 Thrift Store created a collective of artists is known as The Gift of Troost TGOT. Troost39 awarded $3,000 grants to selected recipients conducted group gatherings for support every two-three months and held an Art Showcase in order for these artists to sell their work. In addition we have partnered with a strong local non-profit organization Kansas City G.I.F.T. who provides such as artists with business education and promotion services.
During 2023 we partnered with the City of Kansas City Missouri to improve the facade of our store. In total the project cost totaled $109,657 with 50% coming from the Citys Facade Improvement Grant program.
Building Improvements including interior painting new store fixtures HVAC improvements upgraded Security and Alarm systems.
Troost39 works with many companion ministries in our service to the 39th and Troost neighborhood. We contributed to St. James Church Journey to a New Life and Above & Beyond in 2023. Donations to individuals in crisis were made.
A donation was made to Sto. Nino Catholic Church in Cagayan Philippines in support of a medical mission project
