Higher Education: Operation of a Private University: This category includes expenditures for all activities that are part of the institutions instruction program. Expenditures for credit and non-credit courses, for academic, occupational, and vocational instruction and for regular, special and extended sessions are included. The instruction program encompasses 14,300 students participating in undergraduate, graduate, and professional degree programs in the fields of liberal arts, science and engineering, architecture, business, law, social work, medicine and public health and tropical medicine. Also included in this category are all forms of student aid and expenditures for the education and support of students.
Higher Education: Organized Research: This category includes all expenditures for all activities that are part of the university's research program, which includes activities specifically organized to produce research outcomes, whether commissioned by an agency external to the institution or separately budgeted by an organizational unit within the institution. Subject to those conditions, it includes expenditures for individual and/or project research as well as those of institutes and research centers (over 1,000 Federal and State awards).
Higher Education: Public Service: This category includes all expenditures for the public service component of the academic mission of the university. Public service is a core requirement of the undergraduate curriculum. Note that some of the sponsored activities included in the Organized Research achievement could also be described as Public Service. These include the operation of medical and law clinics that serve the underprivileged, and certain development work overseas. (14,300 students)
Higher Education: Auxiliary Enterprises: This category includes services that support educational activities and athletic expenditures. Services include bookstore, student housing, vending and food administration and campus recreation. (14,300 students)
