Program areas at Turnstone Center for Children and Adults with Disabilities
Daycare and therapy: provided daycare to 46 Children and 85 Adults; rehab services that include ot, pt, speech and fitness and aquatics to 1,582 Adults and Children; and sports programs to 412 Children and Adults. Turnstone is a well-respected community institution, as it is the only free-standing nonprofit organization in northeast Indiana that provides comprehensive services to Children and Adults with intellectual, developmental, visual, and physical Disabilities, no matter their ability to pay. Advocacy: provided advocacy activities that elevate the voice of our clients, illuminate community needs, and lower access barriers to important services. As a disability and inclusivity advocate, Turnstone regularly contributes to community projects and renovations by providing education, guidance, and expertise to employers and community leaders regarding universal design, ada compliance, and accessibility. Turnstone also provides innovative solutions to employers seeking to successfully diversify their workforce by employing marginalized groups, including people with Disabilities and particularly those with physical and visual Disabilities.
Case management and counseling: provided case management and support groups and information referral to 1,208 individuals. Social service coordination is available to all Turnstone clients at no charge. Turnstone's social workers/case managers work with clients and their families to determine which Turnstone services are appropriate, review funding options, and provide referrals and information about helpful community resources. Support groups are also offered at Turnstone for a variety of disability experiences. Short-term and long-term counseling services are also available at Turnstone for anyone facing challenges, changes, and uncertainty. (continued on schedule o)
Equipment assistance/ramps: provided visual, audio, speech, and physical aids to 405 individuals. Transportation: provided cost of transportation to the facility for program participants.
