The foundation was established by a usa world renown chemistry professor of carbohydrates named roy whistler from purdue university in the early 1980s for two reasons: 1 bring Carbohydrate chemists from around the world to share their work and ideas to facilitate synthesis of important Carbohydrate molecules and 2 to recognize high level scientists for their efforts to push the field forward. The usacics's funds will continue to honor dr. whistler wishes by supporting the International Carbohydrate symposia which brings together key scientists from all over the world and to also recognize top scientists in the field through the roy l. whistler award and the usacics's young investigator award.
