Program areas at Unite America Institute
Programmatic grantmaking:the Institute conducts diligence on potential grants that carry out its mission through the support of programs that strengthen the field of nonpartisan organizations working to address political polarization and partisanship. Grants have been made to several other organizations, including, for example, to provide legal services to state-based organizations working on final four/five voting and ranked choice voting, and to support state election administrators so they are prepared to implement the federal electoral count reform act.
Research: the Institute conducts its own original research on the root causes, effects, and potential solutions to political polarization and partisanship. The focus of the research is on the primary problem and nonpartisan election reforms such as instant runoff voting and open primaries. The Institute also engages in grantmaking to other research institutions and vendors to conduct research on similar topics.
Educational outreach: the Institute disseminates educational materials (including books, videos, op-eds, and white papers) explaining public policy issues and analyzing proposed solutions to the media, the public, policymakers, and aligned nonpartisan organizations.
Events:representatives of the Institute attend and present at a number of conferences to disseminate research, engage partners, collaborate on advancing common-sense policy ideas, and cultivate a community of aligned nonpartisan organizations.
