Program areas at UMOS
Umos continued to operate programs related to workforce development, which offers employment and training Services to underserved, diverse populations. The agency entered into its 24th year administering the Wisconsin works (w-2) program. The program provides cash assistance to families which parents prepare for and look for work. Umos is in its 13th year operating transitional jobs programs is several wi regions. During fy 2022-2023, Umos placed more than 1,000 individuals into jobs and assisted more than 2,500 with training, education, work experience, and supportive Services.
Homeless/shelter/food programs - provide temporary food and shelter to displaced migrant/seasonal farmworkers. Funded by the United states department of agriculture (usda), Umos's food and farmworker relief (ffwr) program provides a single 600 direct relief payment to farm workers and meatpacking workers for expenses incurred due to the covid-19 pandemic. The relief payment eligibility period for frontline workers in farming activities and meatpacking is from january 27, 2020, through may 11, 2023, which ended the major disaster declaration related to covid-19. The ffwr program operates in 13 states: Wisconsin, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Iowa, Missouri, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Colorado, Nebraska, Kansas, Florida, and Texas. For fiscal year 2022-2023 9,949 participants have been served.
Umos' child development Services include Migrant and seasonal head start and Migrant child care through which the agency served over 700 children during the most recently completed calendar year (2022) in Texas, Wisconsin, and Missouri, combined. The agency maintains a five-star rating, the highest given by the youngstar quality rating system, from the Wisconsin department of children and families.
Target hiv prevention program - provide hiv testing, prevention and harm reduction Services. Community-based programs - provide various social supports and community education/awareness Services. Housing and rehabilitation programs - manage permanent housing units for Migrant farm worker families and provide funding for rehabilitation of housing in low income communities. Umos offered domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking victim Services through its latina resource center (lrc). During fy 2023, the lrc reached nearly 2,000 adults, youth, and children by providing culturally and linguistically responsive victim Services, which included personal/justice system advocacy, transitional housing, immigration legal assistance, psycho-educational children's groups, prevention, crisis intervention, and other supports to limited english speaking victims/survivors. The lrc also provided anti-human trafficking training to law enforcement and community organizations.
