United Solar Initiative aims to deliver photovoltaic systems that provide lighting, general electrical needs, and water pumping capabilities to underprivileged persons in the US and developing countries. In 2020, the global energy access nonprofit project developer designed and built an 8.7kw Solar + storage microgrid in Kenya at a women's hospital with the support of healthcare NGO funding partner Curamericas Global and microgrid tech.

Program areas at United Solar Initiative

In late 2021 we connected with cathy oliver a woman from south carolina who has been supporting a community in lwengo district of uganda for the past 10+ years. She has been supporting mugerwa umaru who founded and runs the ground zero project in lwengo. Its goal is to help the people in lwengo become self-sustaining. He helps them develop skills and businesses that allow them to support themselves and their families. For example, a young lady, who is in a wheelchair due to an accident, makes beautiful baskets. Another man cathy met makes chalk to sell to schools and detergent for washing clothes. A new medical facility mostly funded through cathy's efforts was built in 2022 and United Solar Initiative funded a small Solar system for the facility. The Solar is mainly used for lighting and charging devices.
