United Ways of Texas is the voluntary state association of Texas United Ways. With 70 United Way members, the association works to represent the public policy interests of our members, provide members education opportunities and lead statewide initiatives designed to improve Texas communities. United Ways of Texas is located in the heart of Texas' capital city, just southwest of the state's Capitol building. This choice of office location was certainly no coincidence; UWT's strong commitment to enriching statewide public policy work requires this level of access and convenience.

Program areas at UWT

State employee charitable campaign - United Ways of Texas manages the state employee charitable campaign (secc), a payroll deduction campaign that allows current and retired state and higher education employees an opportunity to give to hundreds of local, state, national and international nonprofits. Uwt works to increase the campaign through promoting a unified message around the campaign, launching a user-friendly website to provide detailed information regarding the campaign, providing helpful tools to state employees to help advance the campaign in their workplace, researching new Ways to promote and grow the campaign, and working towards program effeciences. The Texas secc campaign is one of the largest state employee campaigns in the country.
Texas non-profit impact project - United Ways of Texas and the onestar foundation have partnered to launch a statewide initiative focused on supporting the states nonprofit sector. Work includes bringing awareness of the sector and its impact on Texas through research, surveys, social media and promotion, as well as policy and advocacy to support Texas nonprofits.
Start smart Texas - start smart Texas is a partnership between United Ways of Texas and Texas pbs that provides technical assistance and supports to community-based collaboratives that helps to support every child succeeding in school and in life. Start smart Texas work includes providing learning opportunities for community partners, managing a texting platform for parents with young children, identifying parent and caregiver engagement tools, and convening state partners to align efforts and strategies. Start smart Texas is a state-level partner of the national campaign for grade-level reading.
Advocacy- United Ways of Texas serves as the voice and a leader for United Ways and their communities at the Texas capitol. United Ways of Texas work in policy and advocacy includes developing opportunities and resources for community volunteers and local nonprofits to engage in advocacy, developing a statewide legislative agenda that reflects the diverse needs of the uwt network and their communities, and empowering local nonprofits to advocate in their local communities.
Texas works - Texas works is a bipartisan statewide coalition focused on advancing policies that ensure every Texan has the opportunity to gain the skills needed to obtain and sustain family- sustaining employment, which will ensure employers have access to works that are educated, communities and local economies are stronger, and that Texas families can lead a successful and self-sufficient life. United Ways of Texas facilitates the coalition focused on these strategies and works towards strengthening support services and other safety net programs that support pathways to career.
Alice - alice is asset limited, income constrained, employed. Alice data sheds light on a population in Texas that is employed yet still struggles to make ends meet. United Ways of Texas is working to reshape the dialogue on financial hardship by highlighting alice data in communities across Texas, bringing resources and tools to help inform alice conversations, and using alice data as a tool to ignite converations with policymakers and elected officials.

Which includes: advocacy- includes building capacity, as well as developing opportunities and resources for community volunteers and local nonprofits, including United Ways to engage in effective advocacy; developing a state legislative agenda that reflects the diverse needs of the uwt communities at the Texas capitol.
