Unity of Greater New Orleans

Unity leads a collaborative of over 50 nonprofit and governmental organizations providing housing and services to people experiencing homelessness. We secure competitive federal grants and subcontract them to 24 nonprofit and governmental organizations, overseeing their work and monitoring their performance in providing housing and services to people experiencing homelessness. Given the insufficiency of funds to permanently house all those who are unhoused, people are prioritized for rental assistance based on need and length of time homeless. In 2023, the Unity collaborative moved over 600 currently homeless people off the street and out of homeless shelters into permanent apartments. At any given time, the Unity collaborative is providing rent assistance and case management services to about 3500 formerly homeless people, most with severe disabilities, who were assisted out of homelessness into permanent housing in prior months, years and decades and continue to need support.
