International Educational Programs 2022:1. PRAYER RALLY: The 2nd "Prayer Rally for Peace on the Korean Peninsula" was held on Jan. 9, 2022 in Korea. UPF sponsored the program, which was attended by more than 1,200 religious leaders, and live streamed to one million peace advocates2. WORLD SUMMITS: UPF organized two major "World Summits" in 2022 to discuss peace on the Korean Peninsula and other challenges to building a world of lasting peace.World Summit: Summit for Peace on the Korean Peninsula was co-hosted by UPF and the Royal Government of Cambodia in Seoul, Korea from Feb. 11 to 13, 2022 on the theme, "Toward Peace on the Korean Peninsula." World political and religious leaders from more than 150 countries participated in the World Summit. During the 2022 World Summit General Assembly, Hun Sen, Prime Minister of Cambodia, received the Sunhak Peace Prize.Summit 2022 and Leadership Conference was held in Seoul Korea on the theme, "Toward a World Culture of Peace," from August 11 to 15, 2022. Participants were invited to sign three pledges: the Resolution for the Universal Charter of Peace, the Resolution on the Establishment of the African Consultative Council in partnership with the African Union, and the Declaration on the Universal Value of Religious Freedom.3. CONFERENCES OF HOPE: In 2022, UPF convened two "Conferences of Hope," on the issue of religious freedom and human rights. 1st Conference of Hope held Nov. 12, 2022, in South Korea and live streamed to millions of viewers globally focused on the issue of religious freedom and human rights. It was co-sponsored by The Washington Times Foundation and Think Tank 2022 (a project of UPF.2nd Conference of Hope for the Realization of a Heavenly Unified World was co-hosted by UPF, the International Association of Parliamentarians for Peace (IAPP) and The Washington Times Foundation. Held in South Korea on December 17, and live streamed to millions of viewers globally.4. REGIONAL INTERNATIONAL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCES: ILC events were held by UPF's regional offices, including by UPF-Central America and the Caribbean, March 23, 2022 on "The Impact of Religion on World Affairs: Peace and Freedom in Ukraine," in Costa Rica; and by UPF-Asia-Pacific, July 29-31, 2022 on "Toward Peaceful Reunification of the Korean Peninsula-Creating a Global Culture of Peace," in the Philippines.5. REGIONAL THINK TANK 2022 FORUMS: Regional Think Tank 2022 Forums to discuss the establishment of "Peace on the Korean Peninsula and "Contemporary Challenges to Peace and Global Order" were held Feb. 1-3 and Apr. 1-3, 2022. The forums were organized by UPF's associations.6. GLOBAL THINK TANK 2022 FORUM hosted the 4th Think Tank 2022 Forum featuring former U.S. Secretary of Defense Mark Esper on Feb. 26, 2022 in Korea.7. OTHER ACTIVITIESUPF Association Programs: Featured a focus on topics and speakers directly related to one of our pillar Associations of UPF: ISCP, IAPP, IAPD, IMAP, IAED, IAAP, IAACP, and IAFLP as well as close partners such as WFWP/GPWN, YSP/IAYSP, etc. The Peace Road Initiative: UPF chapters hosted numerous programs in support of an international highway as a global goodwill symbol for world peace.Unification Theological Seminary: UPF worked collaboratively with UTS to support the Master of Arts in Peace Studies program, and to facilitate UPF contacts to speak at UTS forums, including Jan Figel from Slovakia; Sunhak Peace Prize Laureate Bishop Munib Younan from Jerusalem; and Ryan Koch of LDS Charities.UPF Partner Organizations: UPF teamed with our partner organizations, including, CEN-SAD, Asian Vision Institute, Al-Liqa' Center for Religious, Heritage and Cultural Studies in the Holy Land, and the Coalition of Faith-Based Organizations.UPF Statements: UPF issued statements on timely and critical issues, including support for Cambodia's peace mission to Myanmar; withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine; and a statement on UN International Day of Peace 2022.
UPF Publications and Communications:UPF ENews and Website Development: UPF ENews has a worldwide network of 10,000 followers. Activity reports are submitted to UPF International from 7 UPF Regions, and are posted on the website, with photos, and disseminated regularly around the world. Publishing Dialogue & Alliance: Dialogue & Alliance Interfaith Journal promotes understanding among people of faith for the sake of peace. The journal is indexed at the American Theological Library Association (ATLA). For the past 30 years, it publishes two issues each per year. More than 300 subscribe to the journal. Publishing UPF Today: UPF Today magazine features activities of our international office and chapters throughout the world. The magazine is published in English and Russian, with occasional editions in other languages, including French, Spanish and Arabic. Vol. 16 published in 2022 featured the "Rally of Hope" Series and the "Think Tank 2022 Forum" Series.Coordinating Worldwide Regions and Chapters: UPF is composed of 7 Regions, headed by Regional Chairs. The following are the Regions: Africa; Asia Pacific; Europe, Eurasia and Middle East; Japan; Korea; Latin America (Central America and the Caribbean, and South America); and North America. UPF has a peacebuilding network of 120,000 Ambassadors for Peace who work together for peacebuilding, peace education and the strengthening of marriage and the family. UPF International coordinates all activities of the Worldwide Chapters.
