The University Foundation at Sacramento State invests and distributes funds for The benefit of The University. Since its inception in 1987, The University Foundation promotes philanthropy to provide a level of excellence beyond what is possible through State funds. Led by a volunteer board of directors comprised of prominent professionals and business leaders, The University Foundation is The University's primary philanthropic auxiliary and is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization. The board of directors meets regularly to offer guidance on investments and thoroughly manage The gift funds to ensure that they can fulfill their designated purposes. The Foundation accounts for gifts and contributions to The University, ensuring that The funds are applied to The purposes for which The donor intended. Funds may be expended or endowed, per donor direction; earnings from endowed funds are generally expendable and distributed to student scholarships or programs, in accordance with specifications provided by The donor. The University Foundation at Sacramento State is dedicated to supporting student-centered programs that further The University's mission to provide an excellent education to those who aspire to expand their knowledge and prepare themselves for meaningful lives, careers and service to their community. The Foundation supports The University's comprehensive campaign to accelerate The University's transformational impact on individual lives, diverse communities, Sacramento, California, and The world. The campaign has raised funds to support students, deepen knowledge, and help build The community, and in particular, support for The dale and katy carlsen center for innovation and entrepreneurship, The ernest e. tschannen science complex and planetarium, and for student scholarships and service programs.
