Program areas at USA Club Rugby
Xvs national playoffs: during the 2023 tax year, USA Club Rugby funded the entirety of the program costs for its xvs national championship finals, and made grants to its member unions to help fund their hosting of the four super regional playoff rounds. The xvs ncs is comprised of four super regional tournaments involving, on average, 16 teams per tournament, across five divisions of play: men's divisions 1, 2, and 3 and women's divisions 1 and 2. The winners of the four super regional tournaments then met in the national finals, featuring semi-final and final rounds to crown a national champion in each of the five referenced divisions. The super regional tournaments are jointly funded by USA Club Rugby and the local host unions (which are USA Club Rugby's members). USA Club Rugby's contributions to the super regionals include payment for referee expenses (travel, lodging, and match fees), trophies, Rugby balls and grants to the tournament hosts. The 2023 national championships were wholly funded by USA Club Rugby, with significant expenses including: facilities rental, referee expenses (travel, lodging, and match fees), trophies, medical staff, streaming video production, and administrative travel. Revenues were generated by apparel sales. The 2023 xvs national championships were held in st. charles, Missouri.
For the 2023-24 competitive cycle (which ran from sept. 1, 2023 to aug. 31, 2024), USA Rugby increased player registration fees by 10/registration. USA Club Rugby elected to subsidize half of that registration fee increase (5/player). This subsidy was paid directly to USA Rugby by USA Club Rugby.
In the 2023 tax year, USA Club Rugby also funded and produced its 7s national tournament. 7s nationals features the top 32 Rugby teams playing 7-a-side Rugby (16 men's teams and 16 women's teams) as determined through a series of tournaments organized by USA Club Rugby's member unions, and the individual Rugby clubs that form those unions. The 2023 7s national tournament was held in madison, Wisconsin. USA Club Rugby is solely responsible for funding the 7s national tournament. Significant expense categories included: referee expenses (travel, lodging, and match fees), streaming video production, medical staff, trophies, and administrative travel expense. Revenues were generated through apparel sales, concessions, and video licensing fees.
